Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2024
The Indian Army and the Centre for Land Warfare Studies will host the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2024 on 24-25 October. The theme is ‘Inspiration in Nation Building: Promoting Development through Comprehensive Security’. This defence dialogue will facilitate in-depth discussions and promote strategic partnerships. It will provide a platform for national and international leaders, policymakers, and subject matter experts to share their expertise. It will reflect the Indian Army’s vision of a resilient, secure, and prosperous India in 2047.
Israeli Military Responds to Iranian Missile Attack
The Israeli military reported that Iran fired missiles at Israel, triggering air raid sirens across the country. Approximately 10 million people were ordered to stay near bomb shelters. Israeli police reported a suspected terrorist shooting in Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv, resulting in multiple casualties. Four people were killed, and seven others were injured in the attack. Israel and the United States have warned of serious consequences if Iran attacks.
India Launches BharatGen to Promote Generative AI in Indian Languages
India launched an initiative called BharatGen, aiming to make generative AI available in various Indian languages. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh mentioned that this is the first state-funded project of its kind. The initiative is managed by IIT Bombay, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems, and will develop generative AI systems.
Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2024
The 2024 edition of the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue, an apex-level international conference of the Indian Navy, was held in New Delhi. This conference focuses on the geopolitical influence of traditional and newly identified maritime resources in the Indo-Pacific region.
PM E-Drive Scheme Launched to Promote EV Adoption
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy launched the PM E-Drive Scheme in New Delhi, which aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and promote domestic innovation. The scheme has a financial outlay of Rs. 10,900 crore for two years. Rs. 3,680 crore is allocated for e-two-wheelers, e-three-wheelers, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and emerging EVs. Aadhaar-authenticated e-vouchers will be introduced for EV buyers to avail of demand incentives.
Ajit Kumar Saxena Takes Charge as CMD of RINL
Shri Ajit Kumar Saxena, CMD of MOIL, has assumed additional charge as CMD of RINL (Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Atul Bhatt, CMD of RINL, is on personal leave from 9th September to 30th November, marking his retirement date.
Telangana Establishes Women Entrepreneurship Platform
Telangana has become the first state to establish the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) chapter of NITI Aayog. This initiative, in collaboration with WE Hub and the Telangana government, aims to promote and support women entrepreneurs in various sectors. The WEP Hub will act as the nodal agency for all WEP activities in the state, offering resources, tools, and a strong network to enhance business growth.
RBI Governor as Ex-Officio Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee
The RBI Governor is the ex-officio Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee. The RBI Deputy Governor in charge of monetary policy is also an ex-officio member of the committee. New appointees include Professor Ram Singh, economist Saugata Bhattacharya, and Dr. Nagesh Kumar. Professor Ram Singh is the Director of the Delhi School of Economics, and Dr. Nagesh Kumar is the Director and Chief Executive of the Institute for the Study of Industrial Development.
