Discontinuation of Dhyan Chand Award and Introduction of Arjuna Award
- In an effort to rationalise the numerous sports awards given to the country, the Sports Ministry said that the Dhyan Chand Award for lifetime achievement will be discontinued from this year, and the Arjuna Award will be introduced in its place. The Arjuna Award will be given for lifetime contribution to sports development. The Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award was instituted in 2002 in the name of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. The Dronacharya Award will be given to recognise the efforts of coaches at the grassroots/developmental level.
IndiaAI and Ministry of Electronics Collaboration
- India announced a strategic collaboration with IndiaAI at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to promote open source AI innovation, R&D and skill development. This includes the establishment of the Centre for Generative AI Srujan at IIT Jodhpur. In addition, it also includes the launch of the AI ??Initiative for Skills and Capacity Building in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education. This partnership will enable the development of indigenous AI applications and advance skill development in AI.

Sarvam AI’s Latest Language Model
- Sarvam AI’s latest language model was trained with Nvidia’s Nemo framework on the Yotta Shakti Cloud using the HGX H100 system. The new AI model called Sarvam 1 supports Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu languages. Sarvam 2B launched its first basic AI model in August 2024.
Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership
- Bibhav Kumar Talukdar of Assam received The Harry Messel Award for Conservation Leadership by the Species Survival Commission of the International Union for Conservation of Nature. He received the award during the ongoing 5th IUCN SSC Leaders Meeting in Abu Dhabi. The meeting is attended by 300 conservation experts to address the interlinked crises of biodiversity and climate change.
New Lion Safari in Barda, Gujarat
- A new lion safari is being built in Barda to reduce the burden on Sasan in Gujarat. The first phase of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary and Barda Jungle Safari will be inaugurated at Kapurdi check post of Devbhoomi Dwarka, which aims to reduce the burden on Sasan. This wildlife sanctuary will help in promoting wildlife tourism in Gujarat. Forest and Environment Minister Mulubhai Bera will lead the ceremony. Spread over about 192 square kilometers of Barda area, Barda Jungle Safari Phase-1 includes high and low hills, which have been designated as a sanctuary.
Tata Aircraft Complex Inauguration
- PM Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez jointly inaugurated the Tata Aircraft Complex for the manufacture of C-295 military aircraft in Vadodara. This is India’s first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft. Apart from Tata, defense PSUs like Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited will contribute to this program. A total of 56 C 295 military aircraft will be manufactured for India under the projects.
Digital Arrest Fraud Losses in India
- Indians lost Rs 120.30 crore to digital arrest fraud in the first quarter of 2024. The Ministry of Home Affairs monitors cyber crime at the central level through the Indian Cyber ??Crime Coordination Center. Digital arrest has become a prevalent method of digital fraud. The Indian Cyber ??Crime Coordination Center found that 46% of cyber frauds were reported during this period.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das Ranked Top Central Banker
- The US-based Global Finance magazine has ranked RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das as the top central banker. This is the second consecutive year that he has been ranked as the top central banker globally. Governor Shaktikanta Das received the A+ grade in the Central Bank Report Card 2024. The award was presented by Global Finance at an event held in Washington DC, USA. Das has been ranked top in the list of three central bank governors who have been given A+ rating.
