Largest Marine Protected Area Approved in North Atlantic: 

The creation of the largest protected marine area in the North Atlantic was approved by the regional assembly of Portugal’s Azores Islands. As a result, the archipelago is now at the forefront of a worldwide ocean conservation movement that seeks to meet the UN’s 2030 goal of protecting 30% of the planet’s land and water. Nearly 3 million square kilometres will be covered by the network. Underwater mountain ranges and delicate marine ecosystems such as deep-sea corals, hydrothermal vents and sea creatures will be protected.

Increase in Financial Assistance under Jharkhand Maiya Samman Yojana

Under the Jharkhand Maiya Samman Yojana, financial assistance has been increased from 1000 per month to 2500 per month. It will be provided to 50 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme from December 2024. This scheme will put an additional burden of Rs 9000 crore on the state budget. The government aims to help women from economically weaker sections through this initiative. Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren launched the Chief Minister Maiya Samman Yojana in August 2024.

Extension of SAMARTH Scheme by Ministry of Textiles

SAMARTH is a demand driven and employment oriented macro skilling programme of the Ministry of Textiles. SAMARTH scheme has been extended for another two years with a budget of Rs. 495 crore to train 3 lakh people in textile related skills. The scheme aims to encourage and support the industry in employment generation in the organised textile and related sectors. It covers the entire value chain of textiles except spinning and weaving. The training programmes and curriculum have been rationalised to meet the emerging technology and market needs.

India and Colombia Sign Audio-Visual Co-Production Agreement

India and Colombia have signed an Audio-Visual Co-production Agreement aimed at promoting cooperation between film companies of the two countries. The agreement was signed by India’s Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan and Colombia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez.

Approval for Chief General Manager Posts in Five More Nationalized Banks
