NTPC REL’s First Wind Project in Gujarat Begins Operations (state)

  • NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd’s first wind project in Dayapar, Gujarat, started its commercial operations on November 4, 2023. 
  • This project is the first in India to meet the new electricity grid code and network access rules. NTPC REL is not only focusing on wind and solar energy but is also getting involved in green hydrogen technologies, which are considered a clean energy source. 
  • They are setting up a significant green hydrogen capacity in Ladakh, contributing to India’s sustainable energy goals. 
  • NTPC REL is working to achieve 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

Jaipur Literature Festival 2024 (State)

‘Surat’ – First Navy Warship Named After a Gujarat City (defense)

  • This is a historic event as it is the first time a Navy warship is named after a city in Gujarat. Surat, during the 16th to the 18th century, was a hub for maritime trade and shipbuilding. 
  • The warship ‘Surat’ is part of the ‘Project 15B’ program, which aims to build four advanced stealth guided missile destroyers. It is the final ship in this program.

  • Saab’s new entity, Saab FFV India, will produce the Carl-Gustaf M4 shoulder-fired rocket system.

IOC Acquires Mercator Petroleum 

  • The State-owned Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has acquired Mercator Petroleum Limited (MPL) through an insolvency proceeding.

  • The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, observed on November 6th annually, is a global initiative to raise awareness about the environmental impact of war and conflict. 
  • The United Nations established this day to emphasize the importance of safeguarding the environment for peace and security and preventing its exploitation during military conflicts.

India Leads in Workplace Burnout (international)

  • On the other hand, Turkey scored the highest at 78%, followed closely by India at 76% and China at 75%.

Prime Minister Modi Extends Free Ration Scheme (national)

  • Prime Minister Modi has decided to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for five more years. 
  • This program started during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and gives 5 kilograms of free food grains every month to those who need it.
