RBI Introduces Phased Reduction of Incremental Cash Reserve Ratio (I-CRR) (banking)

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a systematic plan to gradually eliminate the Incremental Cash Reserve Ratio (I-CRR). 
• This move is in response to changing liquidity conditions and aims to ensure the stability of the financial system and smooth operations in money markets. 
• RBI’s strategy involves releasing I-CRR funds in phases. On September 9, 25% of the I-CRR will be released, followed by another 25% on September 23. The remaining 50% of the I-CRR will be made available on October 7. 
• The I-CRR was initially introduced by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, mandating that all scheduled banks maintain a 10% reserve ratio on the increase in their net demand and time liabilities (NDTL) between May 19, 2023, and July 28, 2023. 
• The objective was to absorb excess liquidity arising from various factors, including the reintroduction of ₹2,000 notes into the banking system.

• HSBC India, in collaboration with the National E-Governance Services Ltd (NeSL), has launched a digital solution to modernize trade finance.
